Nigerian Politics Can Never Be About Religion – President Jonathan

Nigerian Politics Can Never Be About Religion – President Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday said Nigeria’s politics had nothing to do with religion.
Jonathan said this in Sokoto at the inauguration of the gubernatorial campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Represented by Dr Halliru Bello, former Minister of Defence and former PDP National Chairman, the President said “God has
Jonathan
created Nigerians with diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds with a view to forging ahead as a united and peaceful nation.’’
Jonathan, therefore, urged Nigerians to vote for a patriotic Nigerian leader who would ensure the sustenance of peace and unity.
He reiterated Federal Government’s determination to conduct free, fair and acceptable 2015 general polls.
The National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, expressed optimism that the party would win the forthcoming elections, at all levels.
He was represented by the Deputy National Chairman, North West, Amb. Ibrahim Kazaure.
The Minister of Health, Dr Halliru Alhassan and his Special Duties counterpart, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, said that the PDP was alive and united in the North West.
Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, the former governor of the state and Chairman, Elders Committee in the state, assured that the party would wrestle for the governorship position in the state in the forthcoming polls.
Bafarawa said “I am hoping that Wamakko will hand over to Wali,” adding that the PDP government would ensure the prosperity, peace and unity of the state, if Wali was elected.

2015 Prophecies , 8 Men Of God , Different Revelations, Who Should We Believe ?

If by now, you have  read at least two, three or more of the several prophecies for 2015 from the different Nigerian men of God, then you are probably as confused as we are.
These men of God hear from the same God but they come up with slightly different visions for Nigeria this year – but who are we to judge?
Their prophecies revolved around the Nigerian economy, Ebola, the upcoming general election, Aso Rock intrigues, the entertainment industry, death, death and more death.

PASTOR-ADEBOYE-3
Kick starting the trend is the highly respected General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God who revealed his at the cross over night.
He revealed that the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease, which has killed over 7,000 people so far, will finally die, he however warned that God said the world should pray against “massive calamities, massive earthquakes and strong hurricanes and typhoons.”
On the February elections, he said “Unfortunately, because it is election year, I can’t tell you all that God told me about Nigeria. But I will tell you this: “By the end of the year, many will say ‘all is well that ends well.’”
Not quite agreeing with Adeboye, Prophet Iginla who is based in Abuja, says Ebola will return to Nigeria.
He released his 2015 prophecy during a special service in his church at Kubwa, Abuja days ago.
On the February Elections: No matter how powerful or well organized 2015 election is, it will be faulted.  I am not a politician nor belong to any political party, I am just speaking God’s mind. The person sitting on the seat might not be perfect, but he will retain the seat. It’s not guess work. Howbeit, it will be a battle between the lion and the  tiger…Shortly after the election, especially on the night of the election, there will be great vandalisation. I see cars being burnt, lives killed.
GEJ’s health and death in Aso Rock: President Jonathan will win, but he has to pray about his health and so many political blows. I pray the two people that enter the Aso Villa will leave together. That’s why we should pray for the woman beside the president. The president and wife should pray that the first lady would finish the tenure together and not losing one before the end of their tenure.
On fake pastors: Also, many men of God indulging in voodoo or occultism, mixing white with black will experience God’s judgement in 2015. Great judgement in the sense that they will be exposed and lots of things will happen that will be the end of such ministries.   I saw a very popular man of God who is highly respected mourned.
The reason is that his wife will be called to glory. It will be a great shock to him because he is highly respected. I am not permitted to mention his name.
Plane crash: I see great politicians and ministers in one aircraft. Three prominent faces were among them, but the plane crashed. They should be careful of traveling in group, irrespective of where they are going…Specifically, Kogi State Governor should pray to survive 2015. I saw him struggling for breath.
Entertainment Industry: A very popular musician, young artiste who sings secular songs should pray against death. He is like someone trying to sell his soul to the devil and it resulted to death. I am not permitted to mention his name.
ASUU: I see ASUU strike and it will be long and will shake the system, but restored later. I see Russian economy under attack by a strange hand. They have to pray so that a strong country like that won’t be brought low prowling for survival.
Death: I see a former president of Nigeria giving up the ghost this year. And people trooping down to his home state for burial. His candle light has burned out already and nothing we can do to it.

The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr D.K Olukoya, on the other hand spoke in parables. He described 2015 as a mysterious year, caution year and dribble year.
“I will speak in parables. This year is going to be a mysterious, cautious and dribbling year, so, you will have to find the solutions instead of diagnosing the problems carried by the year.”

Moving on, founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke-Afa, Lagos, Primate Elijah Ayodele Babatunde,  had quite alot to say but he had a similar prophecy with Prophet Igina.

General elections: This year’s election will throw up a lot of issues. President Goodluck Jonathan will do everything to win a second term, however, he needs 14 days prayer to have a peaceful reign to enable him complete a second term. Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega will be confused during the polls. There will be several gimmicks to cajole the INEC to rig the election.  E-voting will not work. There will be ballot box snatching and stuffing during the election.
GEJ’s health and death in Aso Rock: The President should also commit his health and that of his wife to prayer. Jonathan is in the midst of enemies who are after his life.
Economy: The stock exchange will rise in the early part of the year. Effect of devaluation of naira will continue till around August. Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, despite her World Bank background, will not be able to make appreciable impact on the economy. Some banks will collapse and one of the dead banks will be resuscitated.
Entertainers: Journalists and Nollywood stars need prayers against sudden death. National secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will experience crisis.
ASUU: Some universities will be shut because of cultism and some Vice Chancellors will be queried.
Plane Crash: We need to pray to avoid plane crash in Lagos, Abuja and Kano airports. Presidential jets should be sanctified to avoid artificial disaster.
Ebola:  There will be fresh cases of Ebola in the year, let those in the health sector double their efforts.
Death: We should pray against death of one of the outgoing governors, a first lady and communication guru.
1-Tunde-Bakare-2
Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly, while speaking during the church’s crossover service solely prophesied on the Chibok girls.
“The Chibok girls will be returned this year; some people will say ‘they are just using religion to deceivethemselves. How will the girls be rescued?’ You will see. I didn’t say it, it is what God said and I believe it.”
And then prophesied joy!
“Whether you are from the East or from the West or from the North or the South, you will experience joy in 2015. Other nations will say ‘how did they do it.’ It will be indescribable joy. The nations of the earth will testify. I bring good tidings of joy to every part of the nation…”
Acclaimed man of God, Apostle Johnson Suleiman  had lots of bad news for the Nation.  One of his prophecies was that 2015 election would be a replica of June 12. He said Jonathan should be prayerful as there are plans to kill him and going international, he said Queen Elizabeth will pass on this year.
Queen Elizabeth: Britain needs prayers because of her Queen.
GEJ’s health and Aso Rock: I see president Goodluck Jonathan coming back but troubles….Patience Jonathan needs serious prayers.
General Elections: 2015 presidential election will be rigged, marred in violence and end up in court case.2015 election is another June 12. The man who truly won will not govern or rule.
Men of God:  A great Pentecostal man of God been called to glory. A popular Abuja pastor needs serious prayers. I saw mourning. Prophets who deceive people, collects their properties, charge money, will face great judgment this year. A great man of God whose first name begins with 3rd letter and Surname with 15th letter needs serious prayers. I saw serious crisis and crying. Please let’s pray for him.
Economy: I saw the Naira falling greatly. It became N200 (two hundred naira) to 1$ (a dollar).
Entertainment Industry: Three popular musicians will die; one of them is a young boy.
Plane Crash: Pray against three major Air disasters between February and October.
Oh by the  way, he had a word for er, El Rufai.
“El Rufai should go and sit down. For abusing Jesus, he will not win Kaduna election.”
tb josh
T.B Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, on his part, declared 2015 to be ‘the year of good morning’.
“If you are expecting a New Year, you must be pure in heart,” he stressed, reminding the faithful of Jesus Christ’s words in Matthew 5:8. “If not, the troubled year of 2014 will continue in 2015,” he warned.
“No matter what this coming year brings, if you are more of God, your trials are the soil in which your faith will flourish,” he enjoined the congregation.
He stressed that the freedom the Bible speaks of in John 8:36 is spiritual not physical, insisting that a ‘free spirit,’ was needed for Christians to enjoy peace throughout 2015. “This liberation of your spirit is all you need to have the best year,” he stated.
And then, Bishop Oyedepo of Winners chapel crowned it with his good news!
The year 2015 will be a year with clear distinctions, he began.
He maintained that giants would rise up in all sectors of human endeavour adding that there would be a sudden rise of giants in Zion.
“In 2015, nobody will doubt those who serve God; It will be clear that we are only in the world, not of the world; in 2015, my God will wipe away all your tears; There shall be no occasion for mourning or weeping; Throughout 2015, you are not permitted to bury anyone in your life because there shall be no more death; in 2015, some things that cause you sorrow will be far from you and in 2015, you will not need any medication to be healthy.
There shall be a rise of many giants – giants in all sectors of human endeavor; Men like nations will rise in the year 2015; Men that will command attention of many nations shall arise in 2015 and God has brought us into the realm of heaven on earth, where men will live like angels”
Ta-da!

Opinion: Is Gen. Buhari the change we need?

MOHAMMADU-BUHARI
Truth be told I have not seen a Nigerian leader who impresses me. Fashola came close but he did nothing special.
GEJ is a good and decent human being. I believe that he never thought he’d come so far so soon in his lifetime. But he has. I also believe that the body took office but the mind never came. GEJ is a nice and sincere guy – I truly believe that. But the problem is that “nice” is not a fruit of the holy spirit (my Christian adherents can relate) and my corporate juggernauts know that “nice” guys don’t get the corner office and they often finish last. I have never been a supporter but he especially disappointed me repeatedly with his unguarded utterances over the years. Also whatever empathy he had before taking office has since evaporated.
Buhari on the flip side rides on his past records. These records attest to his uncompromising nature and also his genuine distaste for corruption. But inspite of these laudable achievements, a few questions bother me:
1. Can he repeat same milestones without his formidable team mate – Idiagbon? – Who knows?
2. Are his 30+ year old credentials and modus operandi relevant in the face of modern day Nigeria? – Hard to tell.
3. Can he understand that while decrees go from table to street (pronouncement to implementation) in no time, bills can sometimes take years to pass? – I hope so.
Truth be told I have not seen a Nigerian leader who impresses me. Fashola came close but he did nothing special. Between the 2 described above, who is my man? Neither. But I’m gunning for Buhari – not because he has given me any clear cut blueprint about his plans for Nigeria but because I know there will be less sycophants around the president. I’m gunning for Buhari not because APC is less corrupt than PDP but because with APC, I believe one key sector will be handed to Fashola – I imagine POWER – and he will turn it into a “Lagos”. I want Buhari because though some of his efforts might be frustrated by the national assembly, other sectors will function much better while he wrangles with the big belly men. I will vote Buhari because if he is the same man as 30+ years ago then his technocrat running mate will have a lot of input in governance. If Osinbajo does to Nigeria what he did to Lagos judiciary then my vote would have truly counted.
Buhari’s pointe majeur is to fight corruption. The funny thing is that corruption will fight back and fight hard – very hard. Corruption needs to be starved. When you starve corruption, it dies a natural death. That’s the Osinbajo style. That’s how he approached the corrupt Lagos judiciary and won the war. So though I fear some of Buhari’s ideas might be archaic, because of his choice of running mate, I am convinced they make a formidable team.
Having said all this, I, however, only want Buhari for one term. I want him to be a bridge to the future. A future where intelligence supercedes sentiments. A future where a performer like Fashola can be rest assured that what he did in Lagos for 8 years will guarantee him the Aso Rock residence. A future where people like El-Rufai will not be victimized after the outstanding job he did in Abuja. The list goes on. That future is not today; so Fashola should settle for a ministerial portfolio. El-Rufai should go and govern Kaduna. But the future belongs to the intelligent and Buhari is a safe bridge to that future.

Election behind increased Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria – US

The United States says the increased spate of attacks by Boko Haram, could be due to the upcoming general elections in February.
However, the US advises that the February 14 presidential election should go ahead in spite of the violence.
During a daily briefing on Wednesday, January 14, the US State Department spokesperson, Marie Harf said: “There has been a sharp escalation in the number of reported casualties. We do believe the election is a factor.”
Harf stated that Boko Haram had in the past, used events such as elections to build up tensions in the country.
“Boko Haram has tended to, particularly around something like an election, use political issues or sensitivities to try to flame tensions.”
“We have seen that as one of their tactics and that is why it is so important to move forward with the election, because we believe it is important,” Harf added.

“Goodluck is quick to speak on Paris but says nothing about his own” – This South African politician is upset with GEJ

Julius Sello Malema, leader of South African political party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), is displeased with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Malema took to Twitter to say that while Jonathan has not addressed the massacre at Baga, in Borno state, he went ahead to release a statement about the terrorist attack in Paris.
The revolutionary also expressed his frustration at the inability of the Nigerian government to tackle the menace of Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
Malema, who was a former President of the African National Congress Youth League, tweeted: “Goodluck or Badluck or whatever the name is quick to release a statement on Paris but says nothing about his own. We are saddened.”
“I still don’t understand why the Nigerian government is not aggressively attending to Boko Haram. Why is SA military not there?” he added.
Furthermore, Malema took a swipe at the African Union (AU), writing: “The AU is toothless and is led by the wife of the toothless president of South Africa. There is no vision, no African agenda.”

Buhari is the best luck for Nigeria – Aregbesola declares

Buhari address the people
Ahead of the February 2015 general election, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential nominee Muhammadu Buhari signed a peace pact alongside his presidential opponent President Goodluck Jonathan in a bid to make the upcoming general election scheduled to take place on 14 February a violence-free and pledged his commitment to a peaceful election season.
Called the ‘Abuja Accord’, the event was held in Abuja and attended by former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Anan, and former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku. All eight presidential candidates signed the document.
Following the signing, the Buhari campaign continued on to Oshogbo, Osun State and was treated to a rousing welcome by an extremely large crowd. Present at the rally were national leader of the party, John Oyegun; the director general for Buhari’s campaign organisation, Governor Rotimi Amaechi; former governor of Ekiti state, Dr Kayode Fayemi; and former governor of Osun state, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
The campaign which held at Oshogbo Stadium saw Governor Rauf Aregbesola reveal to the excited crowd that Buhari is the best candidate to lead the nation. “This election is different because it is about freedom… God has answered our prayers by providing us the best candidate to govern us. Nigeria doesn’t want any kind of luck, Nigeria deserves the best luck. Muhammadu Buhari is the best luck for Nigeria,” he told the filled stadium.
Muhammadu Buhari then took to the stage reaffirming his commitment to restructure Nigeria if voted for. “My government will ensure that we break the vicious cycle of unemployment, insecurity, power supply, corruption in Nigeria.” He also stressed the importance for people to pick up their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and to take the time to vote in February.

Exclusive: Buhari executed my dad but I’ll support him for President anyway – Ismail Lawal

Buhari2-960x385
The chance of a Babatunde Fashola being the chief of staff to a President Buhari excites me because the two term serving governor of Lagos understands the issues and he comes across as a policy wonk.
I am not a card carrying member of the APC or PDP, and I do not have a vote in this election cycle. I was also not paid to write this and I am also sure this article will not generate a nationwide traction to determine where the pendulum swings in the February elections. The only motivation is that I take pride in the unity and development of Nigeria and I am nothing sitting on the fence.
In addition to the aforementioned, my father was one the three young men executed by General M Buhari (rtd), the presidential candidate of the APC with a retroactive law some 30years ago. Yet, I HOPE.
The forthcoming February Presidential election is different from all other elections we have seen since the advent of democracy in 1999. The Presidential election has never been aggressively contested, but that has changed in this cycle, thanks in large part to the leaders that formed the APC and a more aware electorate. The electioneering process has not changed much, with the top two political parties relying solely on politicians. The caliber of politician that makes up the Presidential campaign council, for me, is often an indication of how the candidate governs once (s) he becomes President. Mediocre politicians are given the nod to occupy and lead sensitive political and public institutions ahead of their colleagues who understand and know what it takes to govern and deliver social goods to the larger populace.
This traditional way of campaigning and electioneering is partly responsible for the failure we have witnessed in the last 12yrs (with focus on the presidency) but it seems this is about to change.
For the first time in our 16years of democracy, the caliber of politicians I see around the APC candidate, General Mohammad Buhari, gives me hope that something might actually change if he wins.
The chance of a Babatunde Fashola being the chief of staff to a President Buhari excites me because the two term serving governor of Lagos understands the issues and he comes across as a policy wonk. His political experience as Governor of Lagos state will also come in handy in getting policies formulated, passed through the National assembly and implemented to ensure a utilitarian social good. The office of Chief of staff to the President is a very important one because it serves as ‘the power behind the throne’, in saner climes, and the slim chance of a BRF leading that office inspires hope.
I am almost certain that Oby Ezekwesili’s  name would pop up when the time comes to fill sensitive Ministerial post in a Mohammadu Buhari presidency given her closeness to Nasir elrufai  (The next governor of Kaduna State)  and his closeness to a potential Presidential Buhari. The slim chance that the woman Japheth Omojuwa once proclaimed as the ‘Mother of the Nation’ – for her lead role in the noble BBOG movement – leading a sensitive Ministry as the Petroleum or Education Ministry Inspires hope.
EKITI’s loss could be Nigeria’s gain in a Buhari Presidency. I have not seen any Nigerian; military or civilian dissect the problem and possible solution to the boko haram insurgency as Kayode Fayemi did during the interview he granted on 60 minutes with Angela. His grasp and succinct explanation of the different strands of boko haram shows that if given a chance he could make a real impact and formulate a comprehensive policy that can help tame these monsters that have ravaged parts of the NE unabated. His understanding of civil – military relations indicates he is capable of leading the Ministry of Defense with gusto. The slim chance this might happen also inspires hope.
In the words of Babatunde Fashola, President Jonathan fired the hardworking and performing Bolaji Abdullahi as sports minister for political expediency. The slim chance that he could make a return to continue his good work in that ministry in a Buhari Presidency inspires hope.
These individuals and many more I did not mention are not saints but they inspire hope because of their track records in public service and for some accidental reasons majority of them are in the APC. They represent examples of quality leaders Oby Ezekwesili refer to when she wrote thus;
For each of these countries, the stage was set for commencement of their economic transformation from Low Income Country (LIC) status to Upper Middle Income Country (MIC), MIC or close to MIC respectively by the advent of quality leadership at both their political and public institutions that in turn resulted in high public sector efficiency. At the epicenter of this efficiency was, and remains, the investment in leadership of the kind that drove a national vision which placed education, intellect, values, reward for only strenuous effort and hard work at the centre of their development strategy. Once the public sector was set aright, it freed up the private sector and the rest of society to aspire to perform at their maximum possibilities.
You don’t have to agree with the aforementioned, but empirical study proves it to be very true.
The very first sign of a potentially bad government is the caliber of politicians that surrounds a candidate during electioneering – pay-back time is inevitable and its negates the utilitarian calculation that supports the provision of social goods for millions of my compatriots against the few PCC members and their cohorts and that is what the PDP represented in 2011 and now. I am sure there are quality leaders in the PDP but POTFRON has shown nothing but a lack of will to put such a team together. That in addition to an abysmal performance for 6yrs makes me see hope in the APC presidential ticket.
Political will is a necessary tool for the economic prosperity of every country, democratic or otherwise. A historical analysis of the Nigerian state has shown that the political will that serves as a catalyst for economic prosperity and development has been lacking. Our problems – I won’t bore you by listing them, as well all know what they are – are solvable, oh yes they are!!! To solve them we have to commit and vote for the potentially best team in February.
The majority voting bloc in Nigerian can neither read nor write, hence, the onerous task of educating our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunt and close friends rest on the shoulders of those of us that are educated. We have to inspire hope in them about this team and convince them on the need to vote the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket.
The Buhari/Osinbajo ticket and all the potential ‘technocratic politician’ that comes with them for me is the best team this time around. They represent a recipe that will take us from the brink, and lay a solid foundation for a better and solid tomorrow. We need radical monetary, economic, and political reforms and the transformation agenda of the last six years is nothing but a mirage and joke we must and should not continue with. History is replicate of countries that are prosperous and those that are beginning to prosper. The foundation of such prosperity is laid on; Infrastructure – like the interstate road system that Germany invented but which the U.S have mastered; massive funding for science and technology which has been fingered as responsible for India’s growth; a virile public-education system that encourages the study of science and math. Borrowing from the words of CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, we have to download and modify the killer apps that have proved and are still proving to be working for prosperous countries – competition, modern science, the rule of law and private property rights, modern medicine, the consumer society and work ethic. These apps can be downloaded and modified to suit the Nigerian experience and these lads – Buhari/Osinbajo and their team – have the requisite political will, experience and or knowledge to deliver. They simply are the best team and we have to join hands with them irrespective of our reservations to make their dream a reality so that our dreams can be a reality.
The Presidency should be a great dynamo producing fresh ideas; the force of those ideas as they resonate across the nation is a pretty safe gauge of an administration’s intention and vitality.
I’m inspired.

7 Impressive Ways President Jonathan Fought Corruption (No. 3 May WOW You)

Article Source: http://exploreanthonyobuegbe.blogspot.com/2015/01/7-little-known-ways-president-jonathan.html

These days, I hear people say that president Jonathan has done “nothing” to fight corruption in Nigeria.

When I hear this, 2 things come to my mind. It’s either…

1. They don’t know the truth or…
2. They are lying

For Nigeria to “beat” 8 countries to become the 136th most transparent country in the world is not accident. It happened for a reason.

Below are 7 things the Nigerian President did to reduce corruption…

1. 40 Years Of Corruption In The Agricultural Sector Ended Within 90 Days

Before President Jonathan (and his team) came on board, this was how fertilizers and seeds were distributed to government (and farmers)…

-Fertilizer and seed suppliers will collect money from the government

-Some bagged and supplied sands; others supplied under sized bags. Seed suppliers bought grains from the market and supply as seedlings.

As a result, their supplies were useless. They collected government money and supplied fake products.

To make matters worse, distribution was another problem.

If the government gives distributors fertilizers and seeds to share to farmers for free, they’ll sell it.

So how did President Jonathan solve the problem?
Common phone. Yes! COMMON PHONE.

The federal government distributed e-wallet installed phones to farmers.

And how did these phones do the magic? Simple! Instead of getting supplies from the suppliers, the federal government pays the money directly into the farmers’ phone. The farmers buy the fertilizers themselves – after all, they know the original and fake fertilizers better – It’s their line of business.

The Result?

N50 billion Naira has been blocked from fertilizer money thieves.

Also, local farmers started producing in full capacity. As a result, Nigeria has saved more than N700 billion on food import.

2. President Jonathan Organized The Freest, Fairest And Most Peaceful And Credible Elections EVER

“Electoral corruption is the mother of all corruptions”
– President GoodLuck Jonathan

When President Jonathan was sworn in as the acting president in 2010, he vowed to fight electoral corruption to a stand-still.
How did he go about it?

- He enacted electoral laws and guidelines that were beyond manipulation

- He created an electoral system that is manned by qualified, competent and efficient personnel

- He conducted free, fair and credible elections

The Result?

Governorship elections were acclaimed by both local and international observers and free, fair and credible in…

- Edo state
- Ondo state
- Anambra state
- Ekiti state
- Osun state

In these 5 elections, only 1 was won by the president’s party (A.k.a the ruling party), the PDP. The major opposition the APC won in 2 states and 2 other parties APGA and LP won the other 2.

As a result, the confidence of most Nigerians in the electoral process has increased dramatically.

No wonder more Nigerians are now interested in getting the permanent voters card.

3. 60,000 “GHOST” Workers Exposed

Between 2007 – 2010, the federal government built a new system for paying salaries, the IPPIS system.

In 2012, President Jonathan (and his team) took it a step further. They used it to expose “ghost” workers.

By October 2014, they’ve discovered over 60,000.

For years, these fake workers has been collectively carting away N160 billion every year.

Impressively, the case has been transferred to ICPC for further investigation and prosecution.

4. N1.4 Trillion Worth Of Public Sector Theft Blocked Through Import-Waiver Reforms

What’s import waiver? Simple!

It’s the tax (A.k.a import duty) that the government removes on economic boosting goods – goods that boost the economy. Eg. Raw materials, machinery and spare parts.

Before Jonathan (and his team) came in, corrupt public officers heavily abused this system. They gave and received waivers on unapproved goods. Between 2011 – 2013, over N1.4 Trillion was lost.

As a result, the importers whom the waiver was meant for hardly got it.

With the Jonathan reform in the sector, loopholes have been blocked.

5. Stealing Money Through Government Contract Is Now Harder Than Ever

In 2007, the federal government made a law that made it difficult for government contractors to steal money. It is called the public procurement act.

As a result, they’ve (between 2009 – 2013) blocked N558 billion from getting to contract thieves.

They even went as far as fishing out 180 contract stealing companies. The case has been forwarded to the anti-corruption agencies.

6. Ongoing Sanitization Of The Oil And Gas Sector Already Yielding Results

When President Jonathan came on board, he primarily focused on fighting corruption in 3 key areas…

- Electoral corruption
- Fertilizer distribution corruption
- Corruption in the oil and gas

So far, war on “electoral corruption” and “fertilizer distribution corruption” has recorded tremendous success.

But the oil and gas has been the hardest. Nevertheless, this is what he has achieved so far…

He exposed the biggest scam ever in Nigeria’s history.

In 2011, he told us (Nigerians) that there was huge corruption going on in the fuel subsidy sub-sector. So, he took the subsidy money and put it in places where it will yield more dividend.

Well, nobody understood him. So in January 2012, we all went on strike.

To prove his point, a probe panel was set up. What did they discover? USD6.8 Billion (N108.8 Billion) has been stolen in just 3 years.

Let’s put things in perspective. What really is subsidy?

If a cup (Aka. De Rica) of garri is N300 and I pay N100 for you, then I’ve subsidized the garri – that’s garri subsidy.

What is subsidy scam?

If the garri seller sells 1 cup of garri to you and then lie to me that he sold 10 cups, that’s subsidy scam.

The Result?

The subsidy money was used to create the sure-p programme. Below are the achievements so far…

- Used to support road construction.

As a result, 17,000km out of the 23,000 km of bad federal road completed. It’s just remaining 7,000 km and the entire federal road in Nigeria will become good.

- Support for maternal health

600 health centers (mostly in rural communities) already built – and equipped. 700 still under construction.

Consequentially, maternal death has been reduced by 60%. Half a million women now give birth under the care of trained midwives.

- Increased water access - Over 620 boreholes built nationwide.

- Supported the fight against unemployment

Sure-p has been helping in the struggle to get jobs for the 22 million unemployed Nigerian youths…

It’s been working with (and paying) 2,000 youths across the country.

3,000 graduates has gotten jobs under the “graduate internship scheme (GIS)”

5075 youths undergoing vocational training.

Furthermore…

He created and sponsored the most controversial bill in Nigeria’s history, the “Petroleum Industrial Bill (BIB)”

In 2008, the federal government created and sent the petroleum industrial bill (PIB) to the national assembly.

It is a bill that will block all the corruption loopholes – and solve every other problem – in the petroleum industry.

What happened to it? It was vehemently rejected. On 18th July 2012, President Jonathan resent the bill.

But up till now, legislation on the bill has not gone half way.

In May 2015(barely 4 months from now), this current national assembly will be dissolved. A new one will be set up and everybody will go back to square one.

Hmm… You never knew corruption could fight back? Now you do.

As if that is not enough…

He has commissioned – and never stood on the way of any – probe in almost every sector of the industry…

-Aig- Imoukhuede Presidential committee on verification and reconciliation of subsidy claims and payments
-Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force Committee

- The Dotun Suleiman committee

- The Kalu Idika Kalu committee

- The 20 Billion Naira Scam probe

- Etcetera…

7. EFCC Has Prosecuted 427 Cases In 3 Years

The Jonathan led federal government strengthened the EFCC and allowed them do their job. As a result, 427 cases were prosecuted between 2012 – 2014.

The Result?

Fraud in Nigeria reduced from N495 billion to N300 billion. Hence, EFCC saved the country N195 billion.

Sadly, most of the successfully concluded cases are…

- Advanced fee frauds
- Internet frauds
- Commercial cases

Cases involving top government officials have dragged on for years.

The EFCC has blamed this on the Judiciary. These officers (and politicians) frustrate the process. They manipulate the judiciary with the wealth and influence they’ve acquired.

Unfortunately, the federal government (A.k.a the executive) has very limited power over the judiciary (the 3rd arm of government).

Despite that, President Jonathan has continued to use “advocacy” to push for the sanitization of the judiciary.

When he finally succeeds, then every Nigerian – including the very high and mighty – will become truly subject to the law, irrespective of who is president.

In Conclusion

President Jonathan’s approach to fighting corruption looks radically different.

He has focused on strengthening institutions and blocking loopholes in the system.Where possible, he used technology.

Funny enough, this is how Denmark, New Zealand and Finland (the 3 most transparent countries in the world) rooted out corruption from their country.
