An Indian village in a western coastal state has imposed a ban on couples kissing in public, claiming the sight of such “obscene” behaviour is unwanted by local residents.
The village parliament of Salvador-de-Mundo, eight miles north of Goa’s capital Panaji, unanimously passed a resolution this week warning holidaymakers against engaging in public displays of affection.
“We have adopted this resolution following complaints from villagers about couples kissing in public. This was the only way to put an end to it,” deputy village chief Reena Fernandes told AFP on Thursday.
She said they had complained to local authorities but a lack of response had forced the council to take matters into its own hands and pass a resolution which also “banned public drinking and playing loud music.”
However, she declined to comment on whether punitive action will be taken against potential violators of the bylaws.
“We have serene beaches which attract tourists in a big way. Several times we saw couples acting indecently which irked us,” villager Savio Rebeiro told AFP.
The fishing hub on the Arabian sea coastline has now displayed banners in public places to spread awareness of the prohibitions.
Goa’s long sandy beaches have long been a haven for millions of tourists drawn mostly from the West, but a string of controversial statements by local politicians has dented its tourist-friendly image.
The state is ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, which this week barred its female employees from wearing jeans and sleeveless tops in the office.
Last year a top Goa minister demanded a ban on wearing bikinis on beaches, drawing criticism from the public and tourism industry.

A serial womanizer who has been exposed after 17 of his girlfriends all showed up to visit him in the hospital following an accident he had.
Identified simply as Yuan from Hunan, China, the con artist had been living off his many women making each of the believe he was faithful to them until he was involved in an accident and was hospitalized.
The women were all surprised when they paid him a visit only to realise he had been dating all of them at the same time.
According to Asian News, the fraudster took tens of thousands of yen from the women while he had been working for an engineering company without obtaining a college degree.
However, that all changed after Yuan got into a car accident and was taken to a hospital. When his many girlfriends learned about the accident, they went to visit him.
The women met at the hospital and discovered his cheating ways.
The women were all shocked when they discovered that they were cheated and in their confusion and anger, they reported him to the police.
A police investigation further exposed the horrible truth about Yuan’s past and how he swindled his former wife of 250,000 RMB (about $40,000) and then divorced her.
He then proceeded to scam unsuspecting girlfriends out of tens of thousands of yen.
Yuan is facing criminal charges, which are not limited to his romantic relationships, but also to his business life. Yuan allegedly lied to an engineering company and gained employment with a fabricated college degree when he had only a high school diploma.

(PHOTO) 3 Men Deported From Saudi Arabia For Being “Too Attractive” For Women
Three men were forcibly removed from an annual culture festival in Saudi Arabia and subsequently sent back to the UAE after it was deemed that women could find them irresistible.
The delegates from the UAE were in attendance at the Jenadrivah Heritage & Culture Festival in Riyadh, the Saudi capital when religious police officers stormed the stand and evicted the men because “they are too handsome,” according to the Arabic language newspaper, Elaph.
“A festival official said the three Emiratis were taken out on the grounds they are too handsome and that the Commission members feared female visitors could fall for them,” Elaph reported.
Saudi Arabia is a deeply religious and conservative society which forbids women from interacting with unrelated males.
Following the incident, Elaph said the festival’s management took swift action to deport the trio back to Abu Dhabi, capital of the Emirates.
The UAE released an official statement indicating that the religious police were anxious over the unexpected presence of an unnamed female artist in the pavilion.
“Her visit to the UAE stand was a coincidence as it was not included in the programme which we had already provided to the festival’s management,” Saeed Al Kaabi, head of the UAE delegation to the festival, said in a statement.

Photo: 2 University Students Caught Having s*x On Street To Celebrate 19th Birthday
People took photos of two students in China having s*x at a bus stop. They were seen having s*x in public outside the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, before being chased away by police. Scoop reports:
Photos of their romp were uploaded to the Internet, which quickly went viral. The photos showed the two having s*x on the sidewalk near the bus stop on Fat Kong Street in Ho Man Tin.
The man from Mongolia and his girlfriend from Beijing, were reportedly celebrating the man’s 19th birthday at a bar before heading home. Around 4:00 a.m., they decided to have s*x in public.
Passersby took photos of the couple. One showed the woman kneeling in front of the man, while another showed him on top of her.
The couple’s s*x session went on for 45 minutes, until police arrived and ordered them to stop. No arrests were made.
