Ministerial Screening: 4 Reasons Why Amaechi May Be Dumped

National Assembly, Ministerial List
Since the commencement of the ministerial screening of two batches of ministerial nominees sent by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian Senate has twice boycotted the screening of a former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi, who was the campaign director of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) during the March 28 presidential elections, might have been boycotted based on various reasons.
Gov-Rotimi-Amaechi
However, here are 4 major reasons why he may not be screened below:

1. No support from Rivers state senators
2. Petitions levelled against Amaechi
3. Vendetta with the former first lady, Patience Dame Jonathan
4. Declining popularity
Bear in mind, since the screening exercise, the former governor had written three letters to the senate pleading innocence of the allegations against him.

Ministerial Screening: Again, Fashola Clears Air On N78m Website

Former Lagos State Governor has once again cleared the air over the controversial N78 million spent for the upgrade of the website –
www.tundefashola.com Lagos State Government under his watch as Governor in the state, spent the sum of N78 million for the upgrade of the website – www.tundefashola.com.

The former governor, who indirectly addressed the issue after the question, ”Did you really open a Website with 78Million Naira?” was raised by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe at the senate while he, Fashola was undergoing screening as a ministerial nominee at the senate chambers said he doesn’t sign checks or award contracts.

He added, “I don’t fix contract prices, it is an institutional process. The only training I have is that of a lawyer, But in order to execute works on a project we need the input of architect, quantity surveyors, structural engineer and we have consulting ministries; For civil works it is the Ministry of Works, for science it is the Ministry of Science and Technology among others.

Now periodically, they do market surveys with the Ministry of Economic Planning , the Statisticians are there to fix prices from biro to Iron rod to cement it is approved and it becomes the benchmark price of government procurement, nobody can award any other contract over that benchmark.”

The unfortunate things about money is that it often raises suspicions even among brothers. Nobody have alleged that I have corruptly enriched myself, I could not be the master of computers and technology, I need something to do my work. or award contracts.

Obama’s hilarious reaction to Kanye West’s plans to run for president

President Obama has come for Kanye and though he seems to give the rapper some tips for running for president come 2020, the president seems to dismiss Yeezus’ hopes ..Obama was in San Francisco Saturday for a DNC fundraiser where Yeezy is set to perform, he joked about Kanye’s White House plans, saying if elected, Kanye will be The Peezy.(No more Yeezy)
Later, you are going to hear from a guy who I hear has been talking about launching a political career .You may have heard about this,Kanye is thinking about running for speaker of the house But incase Kanye is serious about this..or as he calls it “Peezy(a likely nickname for president, culled from Yeezy), I do have some advice for him.First of all you have to spend sometime dealing with ,some strange characters that behave like they are on a reality show.So you got to be cool with that…
Second important tip,
saying that you have a beautiful dark twisted fantasy(In reference to Kanye’s critically  acclaimed album). That’s what’s known as off message in politics. You can’t say something like that.
And number three, do you think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the south side of Chicago to be president of the United states…That is crazy..That’s cray(slang for crazy)
Can’t wait to hear Kanye’s response to this..

Salary And Allowances Of NASS Members Revealed At Last - Vanguard

The controversy over the monthly salary of a Nigerian lawmaker has finally been laid to rest with a formal disclosure of what the legislators earn. The National Institute of Legislative Studies, NILS, apparently worried by growing public outcry against the Nigerian lawmakers, on Friday released a set of documents, showing what constitutes the earnings of the 109 Senators and 360 members of the Nigerian House of Representatives.

The documents, which were made available to Vanguard in Abuja on Friday, indicated that the Nigerian lawmakers earn perhaps one of the least salaries among legislators in the world, as against the notion that their pay was outrageous.

Apart from releasing global comparative figures drawn from nine countries, the NILS also gave a breakdown of what constitutes the monthly take-home pay of each Nigerian lawmaker. The figure shows that while a Nigerian Senator gets an annual basic salary of N2,026,400,00 a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives goes home with N1,985,212, 50 per year.

But beyond that a Senator takes home a bouquet of allowances which hike their salary to N12, 902, 360.00 while their House of Representatives counterpart goes home with N9,525,985.50 annually.

Thus, for the four-year tenure which the lawmaker stay in the NASS, the Nigerian government spends a total of N1, 406,357,240.00 as basic salary on the 109 Senators and N3,428,994,780.00 on the 360 members of the House of Representatives.

The breakdown of the allowances are on: Vehicle fuelling/maintenance, Constituency, Domestic Staff, Personal Assistant, Entertainment, Recess, Utilities, Newspaper/Periodicals, Houses Maintenance, Wardrobe, Estacode, Duty Tour, which attract more money available to the lawmakers than their basic salaries.

Beyond that, the lawmakers earn special amount in every four-year period on Accommodation, vehicle loan, furniture, and severance allowance, which make every Senator to pocket N24,090,000.00 and a House of Representatives member to go home with N23,822,00.00 within the same period.

Thus for every four year which a lawmaker stays in the NASS, the Federal Government spends N2,625, 810,000.00 on accommodation, vehicle loans, furniture and severance gratuity on the 109 senators and N8,575,920,000.00 on the 360 House of Representatives members.

This payment brings the total expenditure of the government to N33, 992, 360 for the senators and N33,347, 985, 50 on the members of the HoR. The figures are lower when compared to what their counterparts in eight other countries earn.

But the monies Nigerian lawmakers earn from their oversight functions and other sources make them big earners.

A global comparison released by the NILS shows that lawmakers in the Philippines earn the highest annual basic salary of $4, 497,957, followed by their counterparts in the United States of America where a Senator goes home with $3,409,422 while a member of the US House of Representatives takes $1,429,909 home annually.

This is followed by lawmakers in Kenya who earn $968,013 per annum followed by their counterparts in Australia who take home $646,230 while those in the United Kingdom go home with £494,285.43.

The list is followed by lawmakers from India, who earn $474,484, Singapore with $253,469, and Tanzania with $230,961.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian government has been spending a total of N150 billion per year on the NASS but has been forced to step it down to N120 billion this year following rising outcry that the lawmakers are taking too much from the Federation Account leaving little for other sectors.

Jonathan Deserves The Nobel Prize For Peace--Abubakar Audu (APC Cheiftain)

The post-election prize Jonathan deserves – Abubakar Audu

Even though he is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, he still sees good in what outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan did on the heels of the March 28 presidential election. According to him, had Jonathan behaved like some Africa leaders and refused to concede defeat, Nigeria would have boiled. But his swift telephone call to the winner of the March 28 presidential election, now president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to congratulate him even before the results were officially announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, brought peace. For that, a former governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, amongst other things in this interview, says Jonathan deserves the Nobel Prize for Peace.

Shocking American Military Report On Chibok Girls (Read Report)

2213148_america_jpegRECENT reports from US intelligence sources have revealed that Nigerian military commanders leaked plans to rescue the abducted Chibok girls to Boko Haram terrorists which ended up botching the operation.

On April 14, over 200 pupils were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok in Borno State, sparking an international outrage.

In response to the global outcry, the US sent spy planes to Nigeria to help locate the girls and a plan was agreed with the military to mount a daring rescue operation.

However, according to two US Army generals, details of the rescue mission was leaked to Boko Haram before it could be put into operation, enabling the terrorists to take preventative action.

Accusing the Nigerian Army of treason, the generals revealed that that the war against Boko Haram was purposefully sabotaged by the Nigerian government, as if it would not, defeating the terrorists would not have taken longer than a month.

US sources pulled out from helping Nigeria rescue the missing Chibok girls after Washington discovered that Boko Haram had been fed the details of a covert rescue mission that would involve using gas.

Source said that as soon as the Americans arrived and flew surveillance flights over Nigeria, they located the girls and proposed gassing the areas in the Sambisa Forest and then sending in a raid mission to rescue the girls while their terrorist captors were paralysed asleep.

However, shortly after Nigeria’s security chiefs were given this plan in high confidence, its details were leaked to Boko Haram who promptly acted to foil the plot.

On its next surveillance flight over the area, the US team saw the Boko Haram terrorists all wearing gas masks.

US agents were very disappointed with this and immediately afterwards, Washington announced that it will no longer share information with Nigeria.

This was one of the major reasons why the US gave up on a mission of working with the Jonathan government and eventually pulled out of the fight against Boko Haram.

According to military sources, it was this betrayal that led to Washington sanctioning Nigeria and preventing her from purchasing security equipment because the US is not convinced of the sincerity of the Jonathan government. Since the episode, the US has refused to sell Nigeria military hardware amid fears that it may end up in the hands of Boko Haram, although the official reason given was the human rights record of the Nigerian Army.

Since it began its operations in 2009, Boko Haram has always managed to infiltrate the Nigerian security forces where it has as lot of supporters and sympathisers.

Terrorist cells are regularly tipped off about military missions and have subsequently been able to lie in ambush for Nigerian soldiers.

Of late, however, Boko Haram has been on the back foot since the establishment of the regional Multi National Joint Task Force.

Because the task force is made up of regional neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic, Boko Haram has been unable to infiltrate it, ass their troops have not been compromised.

We’ll Reclaim Adamawa, Borno, Yobe From Boko Haram Before Polls – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday promised that the nation’s security forces would completely wipe out members of the extremist Boko Haram sect from Adamawa and Yobe states before the date for the rescheduled general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has now fixed March 28 and April 11 as dates for the elections.

The president also promised that in the case of Borno State, which has been worse hit by the insurgency, at least 70 per cent of the state would be reclaimed before the elections.

Jonathan made the promise during a cocktail he organised for members of the diplomatic corps at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, the security forces would carry out the operation in order to ensure that elections hold in the three affected states.

He said, “This period will give them (security forces) the opportunity to ‎clean up the three states. If at all they cannot clean up the three states, at least two states will be recovered completely and more local governments even from the remaining state so that elections could be conducted even in Borno State.

“Even if we don’t take over all the territories in Borno State, definitely in Adamawa and Yobe states we will take over completely and even Borno State, the headquarters of Boko Haram, even if we don’t take over completely at least 70 per cent of that state will be free for elections to be conducted.

“This is because democracy can only be meaningful if people are allowed to select who rules them”.

President Jonathan boasted that his administration would defeat insurgency the same way it defeated the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

He said the whole world would see his administration’s achievement in that area very soon.

The president explained that his administration recognised the real threats terrorism posed to the nation’s development and national security, adding that insurgency had become the biggest manifestation of terrorism not only in Nigeria but also in the region.

He also said activities of the sect had further shown that no single country could effectively tackle terrorism and insurgency by itself.

Jonathan stressed why the Federal Government was collaborating with its neighbours, sub-regional allies ‎and other partners beyond the region to deal with what he described as mortal challenge to Nigeria’s security and development.

“We are already beginning to turn the trend. Let me reassure you very clearly that we will surely win the war against Boko Haram. We are moving faster now, ‎in the next few weeks, the whole world will know that we are totally committed and that we are in a position to save our people”, he added.

On the polls shift, the president told members of the diplomatic corps that it was a decision taken in the best interest of the country.
