A 26-year-old National Youth Service Corp member, simply identified as Ernest, has committed suicide after being jilted by his girlfriend, Chioma Okewuru, who is also a corps member. Vanguard Newspaper reports
The two corps members met and fell in love while serving in Redemption Secondary School, Ofombogha 1 in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State. Vanguard Newspaper reports that the deceased, a graduate of the University of Benin, went berserk when the lady came back from her village over the weekend with a ring from a man she had promised to marry.

Mr. Noah Ntuen, Acting Divisional Police Officer for Obubra confirmed the incident saying “the girl had told the guy that she would not marry him, but that they could be friends. Gov. Oshiomole kicks out Igbinedion Uni students from state medical facility

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole today gave an executive order stopping the training of nursing students from the Igbinedion University at the state owned medical facilities, the Benin General Hospital and the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.

According to reports, the governor is angry at the school's management for collecting money from their students and not providing the necessary medical facilities for their training.

The students had up until now enjoyed free training at the state owned medical hospitals despite paying huge sums of money to their school for their training. Gov Oshiomole had earlier terminated an agreement with the management of the school to train their medical students at the state's specialist hospital over debts totaling N350million owed the state by the school.

UNILAG undergraduate wins gold medal, car in 2014 Onga campus cooking contest[photos]

A 22-year old law student of University of Lagos, Miss Temitope Oyedija; has emerged the overall winner in this year’s Onga National Campus Cooking Competition thereby winning the star prize of 2014 KIA Rio full option.

With the Okro Soup and Garri she prepared at the Grand Finale of the competition held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the university, Oyedija dazzled other regional winners who represented 13 other universities in the country.

Kachi Onubogu, Executive Director, Commercial, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, sponsors of the competition; who made the announcement said cooking is a universal art done in every part of the world. Based on this, he said Promasidor’s target is to make the competition premium amongst the youth in Nigeria.

Onubogu stated that as a national competition, the cooking contest launched in August 2014 was activated in 14 campuses spread across the country such that many willing students could gain access to participate.

Overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of all participants in the competition, the Commercial Director advised all the finalists to see themselves as winners. His words: “We are proud to have all of you here today. See yourself as a winner whether or not you clinch the star prize. As long as you are one of the 14 contestants here today, you are a winner. You will go home with a prize.”

Dazed by the final result of the annual event, Oyedija disclosed that when the competition started, she was confused over where to start her cooking from. “I later after some minutes got my bearing back,” she stated. On who inspired her cooking skills, she said it was God who created her; who has endowed her with the culinary skills. As a result, she said she would dedicate the prize she won to God first, and then to her mother.

Satisfied with the competition, Edna Obi, Senior Category Manager, Promasidor explained that the event achieved its objectives which include giving students across select campuses the opportunity to sharpen their culinary skills; enlighten the public on the wide variety of dishes enjoyed by different cultures across the country; and create an emotional bond between the brand’s target audience and the Onga Seasoning through active engagement and one-on-one interaction.

She assured that Promasidor will not relent in embracing any laudable idea that will contribute to the development of its target audience and the society at large.

Other contestants present at the Grand Finale include the first runner up, Isaac Uzoenyi, a student of Abia State University; Jessica Egbenwonu, a student of Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan; Miss Arafat Azeez, student of Environmental Resources Management, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB); and Christopher Xyztus, student of School of Natural and Applied Science, Federal University of Technology, Minna.

10 Things You Should Do Before Your Final Year In School

By this time in the next two years or so, you would have been rounding off your undergraduate programme. If you want to be sure you had prepared for life after campus, you’ve got to start these right from now! This is actually based on the notion that you’ve already taken a decision on what you want to be in future. As you get ready for that priced time regarded as ‘final year’, here are the top ten things you should consider doing ahead of then.

Participate in Career Advancement Events:  They are many around. From conferences to seminars, workshops to symposia and from competitions to contests, from grants to scholarships, the list is endless. It only takes discerning minds to identify one. In line with your future aspiration most especially, it is important you attend such career advancement events. Use career advancement websites or google, ask a professional in the field to keep a tab on upcoming career advancement events ahead.

Earn the trust of others: Are you the cunning type? Do you possess some character that could portray you as a dishonest person? It’s high time you started getting rid of such characters. People around you are watching you. News of your good character or otherwise would spread to a place you never imagined in the nearest future. You’d better turn a new leaf today before it’s too late!

Volunteer: Volunteering involves you providing services to people based on your skills or expertise at little or no cost at all. The world is in need of helpful people and such people should be sure that their effort is not in vain. It is important to note that volunteering could even increase your chances of getting a job. In an age when work experience is one of the pre-requisite to get a job, your volunteering experience would be helpful. For example, consider using your leadership and organisational skills, editing, writing, publicity, ICT, social media, medical and child caring skills. Give to the society voluntarily and you would succeed!

Mop up your social media: Watch what you post on the social media. Your first job might be lost as a result of one status update in the same way another could get you a job right before you graduate. Remove that gangster picture of yours. Be equally careful of those who tag you in their status updates, especially if such wouldn’t present you in a good light. If it requires you ‘unfriending’ or ‘blocking’ such people, please do! Be as modest as possible in your posts. There is no crime talking about religion, politics, ethnicity, gender or other topics of diverse views. But if you must, you should thread the path with high level of intellectuality based on facts and avoid maligning other people indiscriminately.

Study Smartly: Studentship isn’t all about working hard to get the highest of grades but studying smartly. Smart studying emphasises you understanding the course content beyond examination situations. More often than not, most students read just to pass exams. Yours should be an exception! Irrespective of what the course is, it important you can apply its contents beyond examination situations. You don’t want to open your over five hundred page engineering textbook when asked to determine solution to a mechanical fault!

Learn some skills: A skill-based personality is the ideal professionally-prepared personality. Go beyond the lectures to learn new skills applicable in the industry generally. It is possible that that step could place you above your peers in future. Skills learnt should be however relevant to contemporary times. Your skills are your selling points!

Engage in fruitful journeys: Before you decide on embarking on any sojourn as a student, weigh the benefits. Ask yourself what you stand to lose by not participating as much as you consider what you stand to gain. You don’t want to found in the midst of street urchins nor would you want to be caught in the web of some controversy betraying your sparkling good character.

Get yourself a mentor: Career mapping comes to play here. Your career should be plan-based. You would need a trustworthy professional in the field to be your mentor. He is more likely aware of current trends relating to achieving career success. He can easily help you in material and technical support where necessary. Your mentor should be your adviser in making professionally-inclined decisions. There is no need for an aspiring lawyer having a physician as his mentor. Choose your mentor wisely!

Start practicing before graduating: Do you want to be a teacher? Start acting as one directly or indirectly. Clinch with a professional in your field of choice and request being his assistant/intern Don’t expect to be paid since you are not yet a graduate. They could consider paying you if they have the resources to cater for that. You know what? Practice makes perfect!

Be prayerful: God is the one who makes our plans materialise. Whatever we have in stock can only be successful combining dedication with prayer. There are stories of dedicated people who yet failed. That’s as a result of lack of God’s blessings in their acts. Think God first!

People generally see tertiary institution life as being full of freedom. Yes, it is! Everybody is free to do whatever they wish. Why not do something personally worthy of reverence and reference against the future? Choose to do something beneficial for yourself. Your future starts now!

Reasons Why Young Nigerians Find It Difficult To Gain Admission In Nigeria

The difficulties encountered in securing admission does not only affect young Nigerians, but also others, both young and old who aspire to be admitted into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education in Nigeria.

• There are so many Universities, Polytechnics, etc in Nigeria. So why are many candidates missing out in the race at the end of the day? the number one answer to this is "Lack of Statistical information about candidates' school of choice and course of choice" Don't get it yet? Alright. Now, before you applied to study that course at that university how many candidates have already applied for the same course at that particular university? How many other available universities offer your course of choice? Would you still go on to apply in a situation whereby more than eight thousand applications have been recorded in your department of choice whereas there are more than ten other good universities that offer the same course but still having moderated application index like 703, 1,200, 2,450, 900, 1,346, etc?

Must Read:How i Bought a Brand New Galaxy Tablet @N10,600 and HP Laptop @30k [Brand New]

Now let's take three major courses, Medicine and surgery, Law, and Electrical Engineering as key study on this issue.

This is 2015 academic session. But do you know that as of today, based on JAMB Course Statistic that 8,775 (eight thousand, seven hundred and seventy five) candidates have already applied for Medicine and surgery at the University of Ilorin,; 7,531 (Seven thousand fivehundred and thirty one) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka(UNN)? This number is increasing everyday as new candidates still channel their application to this universities and few others with very high application index. Nothing wrong with that? Have you seen any university in Nigeria that admitted more than 3,000 candidates in a particular department after conducting their Post-UTME?

Now let's briefly analyze this case. From my research, there are more than 16 (sixteen) accredited universities in Nigeria that offer medicine and surgery, Law and Electrical Engineering. Out of this number, not less than 12 (twelve) do well in this field.
Now consider the list below; it covers today's course statistic of some good universities that offer medicine and surgery, Law and Electrical Engineering, and then tell me why you should consider trying your luck at a university that already has thousands of application in your department of choice whereas there other nice universities that can easily accommodate you.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka- 7,531 (Medicine and Surgery); 4,274 (Law);

University of Lagos- 4,972 (Medicine and Surgery); 3,388 (Law); 794 (Electrical Engineering)

University of Port Harcourt- 3,981(Medicine and Surgery); 446 (Electrical Engineering)

University of llorin- 8,775 (Medicine and Surgery); 3,231 (Law); 1,279 (Electrical/Electronics Engineering)

University of Ibadan- 6,600 (Medicine and Surgery); 2,674 (Law); 723(Electrical Engineering)

Delta state university Abraka- 1,972 (Medicine and Surgery); 1,257 (Law); (Electrical Engineering not offered this year )

Anambra State University- 442 (Medicine and Surgery); 466 (Law); 172 (Electrical Engineering)

Niger delta university- 1,78 (Medicine and Surgery); 1,27 (Law); 100 (Electrical Engineering)

Ahmadu bello university Zaria- 7,96 (Medicine and Surgery); 2,59 (Law); 1,72(Electrical Engineering)

Obafemi awolowo university- 4,74 (Medicine and Surgery); 2,784 (Law); 609 (Electrical/Electronics Engineering)

Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma- 1,876 (Medicine and Surgery); 1,694 (Law); 574 (Electrical/Electronics Engineering)
etc

Meanwhile, There are also many 'rich men pikin schools' grin grin (Private Universities) out there that offer these courses that still have low application index.

Note: under Electrical/Electronics Engineering students will later be split to either department. So don't be afraid of the index if high. You can check your course statistics by visiting www.jamb.org.ng and then follow the step on the image below.

So, how far about that? Still bent on adding to the application index of Universities that have already recorded more thousands of application while you have better chances of gaining admission into other available universities? I don't think so, unless you are playing dice with you career.

Note well that the high level of application recorded in some universities above is not because they are the best in teaching these courses, rather because they are popular among O-level school leavers and even other prospective students. Therefore, try to check the course statistics of universities before you apply; Make hay while the sun shines!

Small assignment grin: University of Benin was not included in the list above; check its course statistics.

• Now, another serious cause of massive lose in the admission race by young Nigerians is one very popular problem among young Nigerians, which is "Poor Reading Habit". The use of Computer Based Test (CBT) is now compulsory for all UTME candidates this 2015. CBT has more malpractice checking capability which has handicapped many UTME candidates, resulting to mass failure after the exercise.

Since the advent of smart-phones and other electronic gadget many young Nigerians tend to stick to these things more than study! "in fact de don use am pas oyibo way produce am cool cool"..........well, no need of prolonging the issue; Just read this time or fail!

• Another heart braking and well known cause of the difficulties encountered by many innocent Nigerians in gaining admission is the "Corruption that runs in the veins of many universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, etc" the system is down! Departmental cut off marks are nolonger published, which gives them room to give admission to any person they prefer whether merited or not; they can even deny admission to a qualified candidate; you can't question them because there is now way you can tell is you are qualified or not! Some universities now advertise on the internet many courses they don't even offer; is that not a criminal act? Agencies that have the obligation to handle these issues should please go back to work.

THE END (For others; UTME candidates should continue reading)

• Are you a candidate sitting for this 2015 UTME? Okay! Now listen cool, you are going there to sit for real business not just exam! the examination hall is not your father's parlor, it is not a fast-food joint for crying out loud embarassed! you are not going there to do 'shakara' you are going there to pass the exam! forget about 'big girl or big boy'. If you about answering any question and you find it difficult, just ask your neighbours when the supervisor is not watching shocked! the exam only last for a day, so do your best to do well that very day (but no expo oh! I mean am oh!). Don't sit there saying "I'm shy oh!; I'm they shy type" really? you are the shy type? Sit down my friend; go and tell that to 'Amadioha', the gods and not me! Be agile! Be fast! don't just sit there checking if the lipstick you applied is still there or if your sagged trouser is still intact. Concentrate and write the exam!

• Finally, do your best and leave the rest for God!

Readers can also contribute other factors they think are the causes of these difficulties encountered in gaining admission here in Nigeria; it will be highly welcomed! Tnx!

University Of Jos Shuts Down Indefinitely (See Why)

The University of Jos has been shut down after a protest by students over hike in fees turned violent. The protest started yesterday morning with students holding university administrators hostage in their offices.

Security officials where later called in today when  the protest continued to calm the situation. But a soldier attached to the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis (STF), instead of calming the situation opened fire on protesters leaving at least 8 students with gun wounds including a blind one.

The University Registrar, Jully Dandam, after a hurriedly convened management meeting, announced the institution will remain closed till further notice.

The school management also ordered all students to vacate the campus before 2 p.m. today as a way of halting the violence and stopping the crisis from spreading to other parts of the state.

None of the students has died, but are presently receiving treatment. The Special Taskforce (STF) spokesperson has however denied a soldier with them shot the wounded students, but confirmed they had gun wounds, but might be from other security officers invited by the school management

Shocking! This Woman Disappears With Four Kids Within 30mins Of Starting Her Job As An Assistant Teacher (see)

A woman simply identified as eleha (woman in purdah) last Tuesday November 18, 2014 disappeared with 4 kids at a neighbourhood home lesson in Idi-Omo area of Ibadan, Oyo State. And according to Tribune, the children are yet to be found till the writing of this report today.

The four missing children, whose names were given as Abdulsalam Aderibigbe, Abigail Adegunju, Chidiebere and Onyiyechukwu were reportedly taken away by the eleha who disguised as someone in need of an employment. She struck within 30 minutes of starting her job as a lesson assistant.

The 33-year-old proprietress of  Mrs Kafayat Olatubosun, has described the incident which led to the disappearance of the four pupils in her care as one that is like a devil stalking her, after which he crept in and struck.

According to Mrs Olatunbosun who is nursing a 14-month-old baby and is currently kept in protective custody at State Criminal Investigation, Iyaganku, Ibadan:
“I started operating a neighbourhood lesson for children at Sagbolada Compound, Idi Omo, Ibadan in 2009. I rented a space in the compound and I pay N500 monthly for it. I have about 35 pupils between the ages of one-and-half and three. Sometimes, primary school pupils sent home from their schools because of non-payment of fees are brought by their parents so that there would be no vacuum in their academic lives. I collect N20 daily for each child and the lesson hours are between 8a.m. and 1p.m.”
The National Teachers Institution (NTI) certificate holder and mother of three spoke further:
“I had been working alone all the years, with regular assistance from my husband and a few elderly women staying within and around the lesson. Whenever I wanted to move round to pick children from their homes, my husband would stay with the ones already in class. Same would happen in the afternoon until the last child had been taken home. Whenever he was busy in the shop where he works as a lotto agent, the women who were like my in-laws would assist me.
The woman who did this evil work (kidnapping) had been coming when I was still pregnant with the 14-month-old baby I am nursing. She kept pestering me that she wanted to work with me but I told her that I did not need assistance.
About a month after I resumed work, having spent 41 days at home after delivery, she came again and I still insisted that I did not need an assistant. She told me that she wanted to leave where she was working because she was being owed salary. I replied that I would not a similar situation to occur in our relationship because the children were enough to take care of my own needs.
I told her that I would like to inform my husband which I did by calling him. But he could not come because he was busy in his office. The woman told me she would come back the following day. The following morning, when I got to the lesson, at a little after 8a.m., I met the woman waiting for me.
Shortly after, my husband came and saw her too. I said I would be paying her N3,000 monthly and she agreed. My husband left for his office and I decided to make the rounds to pick my pupils.
I went the first round to pick the children and I met the lady on my return. I went the second round and still met her. Even some parents who brought their children themselves saw her.
It was on my return after the third round that she was no longer around. I also noticed that one of the children, Abdusalam, was missing. I shouted and the elderly women around came. I quickly called my husband on the phone and he came. I met one of the parents who just brought her child in and she said she did not meet anyone.
That was how we noticed that Abigail, Samson, Chidiebere and Onyiyechukwu were also missing. The last two children are siblings Samson, who is three years old later walked back to us.”
When asked if she could identify the woman, Mrs Olatunbosun replied that she could.

Crime Reports learnt that the Idi Omo neighbourhood was immediately thrown into confusion as residents, especially the youths and parents of the missing pupils, started searching for the woman and the children. The mother of two of the missing children who are sisters was reported to have collapsed immediately and had since been on admission. The older of her two kids is three.

But the police image maker in Oyo State, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor said that Commissioner of Police, Kola Shodipo has put his men on their toes to unravel the identity of the woman, with a view to arresting her.

Photos: UNICAL Economics lecturer allegedly stabs student in the eye

Below is a report I just received from a student from the school. Read below...
A student of Computer Science Department of University of Calabar name withheld almost lost his sight after a lecturer known as Chris Otu in the Department of Economics, University of Calabar stabbed him with his-car key during lecture hour.
According to an eye-withness Mr Otu was supposed to have a class with year 3 students of Computer Science Department by 10.am, today 21 Nov. but he failed to appear after keeping the students waiting for two hours, he later appeared by 12-noon.
After the lecturer's arrival, the waiting students assembled themselves at the lecture venue New CES building room 7 behind Unical Library.
The victimized student who is the lecturer's class rep. took white board markers to the lecturer (Mr. Otu) which is a regular routine in various Universities in Nigeria. But the lecturer for no reason premeditatedly used a book in his hand to hit the student on his head and as if that was not enough, he stabbed him with his car key and walked him out of the class.
The injury was bleeding profusely when the lecturer who felt zero remorse told the injured student and other students in the class to go and ask around who he is.
Mr Chris Otu who lost one of his eyes during a battle is believed to be an ex-cultist and because this is Nigeria, he claims nothing can be done to him.
Now, they decided to take the case to the media. Hope the university authority will look into this...

#PrayForFSU - Student Saved From Shooter's Bullet By Backpack Of Books

Jason Derfuss, a student at Florida State University was one of the targets of a shooter who police killed this morning at the school. But Jason is unharmed and he is thanking God for saving him from the shooter's bullet.

Jason says he was leaving Strozier Library, and was barely 5 ft away from the man when the shooting happened. Luckily, Jason was carrying his backpack and it was full of the books he’d just checked out from the library.

Jason Derfuss shared his testimony on his Facebook page, along with pictures,

"Earlier tonight there was a shooting at FSU, right as I was leaving Strozier. I didn't know this at the time, but the Shooter targeted me first. The shot I heard behind me I did not feel, nor did it hit me at all. He was about 5 feet from me, but he hit my books."

Jason thinks the books played a large part in saving him, but says it's mysterious how they could have done that.

Books one minute earlier I had checked out of the library, books that should not have stopped the bullet. But they did. I learned this about 3 hours after it happened, I never thought to check my bag. I assumed I wasn't a target, I assumed I was fine.

The student gave all thanks to God.

The truth is I was almost killed tonight and God intervened. I know conceptually He can do all things, but to physically witness the impossible and to be surrounded by such grace is indescribable. To God be the glory, forever and ever, Amen.

Inside the Bizarre World of Will Smith's Children, Jaden & Willow: Why They Think Going To School Makes No Sense! [Photo]

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYPpfRg0iRPHpubZSaVaW9iAJo6WwdWLcQP1MRKl2uVnwKTrJLpLuoGigWhlnBAKfmJYMQZJA2jPKWdH6H4XILGYJwf3XHKi5OM8J793mSzK_uZ_37T4n1WzJi1nxIgUgXw4NKwhVLg7JE/s1600/8.jpg
The siblings got down with the T Magazine to discuss Prana energy (meditation), school being overrated and how Willow possesses the ability to control time. And here's all they said. But first off, the pair revealed that Willow is currently reading 'quantum physics' while Jaden said he is glossing over an 'ancient text' called The Ancient Secret of the Flower Life [that] can’t be pre-dated'.

About what themes 'recur' in their music:
Jaden said: 'the melancholiness of the ocean; the melancholiness of everything else' while Willow described the feeling of being in a 'holographic reality that a higher consciousness made'.

About school being useless:
The siblings confessed they've already had enough of going to school like normal teenagers.

Willow:
'I went to school for one year. It was the best experience but the worst experience. The best experience because I was, like, "Oh, now I know why kids are so depressed. But it was the worst experience because I was depressed.'

Jaden took aim at Driver's Ed, suggesting that the amount of car accidents that happen prove school isn't working.
'You never learn anything in school. Think about how many car accidents happen every day. Driver’s ed? What’s up? I still haven’t been to driver’s ed because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can’t see how driver’s ed is really helping them out. Here’s the deal: School is not authentic because it ends. It’s not true, it’s not real. Our learning will never end. The school that we go to every single morning, we will continue to go to.'

Willow then bizarrely claims that time is a concept that she can control with her mind.
I mean, time for me, I can make it go slow or fast, however I please. That’s how I know it doesn't exist.'

And despite only being fourteen years old, Willow already misses her days as a newborn.
'When they’re in the stomach, [babies are] so aware, putting all their bones together, putting all their ligaments together. But they’re shocked by this harsh world…As they grow up, they start losing.'

Discussing honesty:
Willow suggested that she has started 'caring less and less about what your own mind thinks' in a bid to stop her feeling sad.

Jaden agreed by saying:
'Exactly. Because your mind has a duality to it. So when one thought goes into your mind, it’s not just one thought, it has to bounce off both hemispheres of the brain.'
